LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A man accused of beating his ex-girlfriend's son has surrendered to police.

Steven Wright, 23, was booked into Metro Corrections around 1:15 a.m. Thursday. He turned himself in after news reports identified him as the person who beat Christi Elliot's 3-year-old son, Cain.

Elliot says she left her house for a few hours on Oct. 12 while Wright watched her son.

When she returned, Cain had bruises on his head, face, ear and neck and other parts of his body.

Elliott says Wright "swore up and down that the dog had done it, he didn't know what happened and that the dog had got him."

According to the arrest warrant, Wright struck the child "with his fist, leaving marks on his face, abdomen, legs and ears. The warrant also states that Wright placed "his hands around" the child's neck, leaving visible marks.

Police say Cain calls Wright "daddy."

Wright is facing charges of assault (child abuse) and wanton endangerment. He's being held at Louisville Metro Corrections on a $100,000 full cash bond and is expected to be arraigned on Friday.
