LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Jeffersontown will be the site of a memorial commemorating the loss of life on 9/11.

A piece of steel from the World Trade Center is now on display at the J-Town Library.

Plans call for it to become part of a permanent memorial to be built in front of the town's main fire station.

"Our next part of our streetscape will include a memorial of 9/11 at the fire department, we want all those to remember that there was 3,000 people that gave their lives for our freedom and the future of America," said Jeffersontown Mayor Bill Dieruf.

Mayor Dieruf says it will likely be a couple of years before the permanent memorial will be complete.
