LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) - The bourbon boom was on display Saturday as people gathered in Louisville to taste and learn about different bourbons.

The Filson's Bourbon Academy is an eight-hour educational seminar and tasting at the Filson Historical Society on South Third Street in downtown Louisville.

Participants sat around a table tasting all kinds of bourbon, and learning about the flavors and history from bourbon historian Michael Veach.

"It's a fundraiser for the Filson but I also look at it as a service to the community because there are too many people out there that don't know enough about bourbon, particularly people that work at bars and such," Veach said.

The class today had 15 people, but Veach said he normally teaches larger classes.

He says the knowledge of taste and history is vital if Kentucky wants to become the center of the bourbon universe.
