LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- The University of Louisville football team will get a return visit from Notre Dame on Sept. 2, 2019, in Papa John's Cardinal Stadium, the Atlantic Coast Conference announced on Tuesday.

The Cardinals and Fighting Irish are scheduled to meet for the first time on Nov. 22, when U of L travels to South Bend, Ind.

In addition to the 2019 meeting, the two schools will play at Notre Dame in 2020 and at Louisville in 2023. The dates for those games will be announced at a later time.

The games are part of an agreement between the Conference and Notre Dame to play five ACC teams each year in football.

"The football partnership between the ACC and Notre Dame is a terrific enhancement for all parties,” said ACC Commissioner John Swofford. "Notre Dame not only adds to our league's already highly ambitious schedules, it also provides the opportunity for almost all of our student-athletes to play against Notre Dame during their careers. When you add in the excitement that it brings to our fans, there's no question that this partnership is significant."
