LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- I've always liked the little player surveys that some schools publish in college football and basketball media guides. I don't have time to ask every player what their favorite TV show or movie might be, but I like to look from year to year just to see what the answers are. It's a kind of cultural snapshot.

I was going to compile the answers from University of Kentucky and University of Louisville players into one group picture this season, but UK didn't include those answers in its men's guide, so I just went with U of L.

Now, those of you with kids know how this works. If you have three kids, they want three different things for dinner, or they want to watch three different movies or TV shows.

For instance, I got a smile that out of 30 different players (17 men, 13 women), you got 39 different answers to the question "favorite movie."

The most popular movie among U of L men's and women's players was the 2000 film "Love & Basketball," selected by four players.

Want to make the combined squads happy in the food department? The best you can do is pizza -- but only six listed that as their favorite, outpacing seafood (3) and wings, pasta, breakfast food and sushi (2 each). It was intriguing to me that a Norewegian player, Matz Stockman, said his favorite food was "Italian."

But if you're looking for consensus, a true favorite crossing all team lines, there's only one place to look.

Kevin Hart was named favorite comedian by 19 of the players. Nobody else came close to that kind of support. Shaquille O'Neal got eight votes in the "favorite sports personality" department.

The favorite TV show? "Martin." What is this, 1995? The popular 1990's sitcom featuring Martin Lawrence actually will make a comeback next year, but the old school version is popular at U of L, with six players listing it as a favorite, followed by Scandal, The Fresh Prince of Bel Air and The Game, with three each.

There were some questions that were specific to each team. The men's team was asked for its favorite actor -- Denzel Washington was the only actor who got multiple votes.

Asked for their favorite website, the men's team gave
(5 votes), YouTube (4) and
(2). Equibase, a horse racing website, was selected by one degenerate gambler. David Levitch.

Players for the women's team were asked to write down the "Thing I cannot live without." There was a tie in the voting between "family" and "my phone," with five votes each. Also receiving votes: Jesus, Internet, Snapchat, money and food.

The 30 combined players listed 25 favorite midnight snacks. The only ones listed three times? Hot Cheetos and chips.

What does it all mean? Well, nothing. It's just a window into the culture of these players in 2014. If you feel old looking through these answers -- you're not alone.
