Police investigating after shooting near Churchill Downs

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Police are looking for suspects after a shooting near Churchill Downs.

According to MetroSafe dispatchers, a 17-year-old male was shot around 7:15 a.m. at a bus stop on Phyllis Avenue not far from Taylor Blvd. Both TARC and JCPS use the bus stop.

The victim was taken to University Hospital; LMPD Lt. Josh Judah told WDRB News that the victim was shot in the torso, but is expected to survive.

Friends of the victim told us he was waiting for the bus to pick him up and take him to Iroquois High School when he was approached by two teenage boys. The suspects allegedly tried to rob the victim, who was shot when he fought back.

Police are looking for two suspects, believed to be juveniles, in connection with the shooting.
