LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- The oldest World War II veteran in Kentucky passed away this week at the age of 107.

Roscoe Cassidy's military papers say that he was born in 1907.

He served overseas until the end of the war, then came home to Bath County after being honorably discharged.

Before he died, he passed on a piece of advice to those he loved most. He says a shot of moonshine is what led to him living such a long life.

"It's not the years that he lived, it's the life he lived in those years," Cassidy's friend Danny Belcher said. "[He] fought for his country, fought evil, came back to a great America."

"He was a hero," Belcher added. "Yeah, he was legend."

Friends also say Cassidy was known for his humor, dancing and always standing up for a cause.
