Portland Community Center opens with new look, new name

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) - The Portland Community Center is back open, with a new look and new name.

The building was dedicated Saturday as the Molly Leonard Portland Community Center.

Leonard, who died in 2008, was a well-respected community activist and long-time volunteer.

So far, Metro Parks has made $150,000 worth of renovations to the community center, including new flooring, interior painting and computers.

"There's a lot of people in this world, in this city, that are trying to do good things but have hidden agendas," said Col. Ozzy Gibson, Deputy Chief of Police for LMPD. "What I learned out of Molly in the short time with her is she did not have a hidden agenda. The only agenda she had is the people in this community."

Other renovations planned over the next year include a new fire alarm system and a new roof.
