McConnell, Grimes campaign 10 days before election

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) – The Senate race between Mitch McConnell and Alison Lundergan Grimes comes to an end in 10 days. But until then, the two are still on the campaign trail, fighting for votes.

“Who can do the most for Kentucky the next six years, the majority leader of the Senate, or a freshman?” said McConnell.

“We're gonna send Mitch McConnell into retirement,” said Grimes.

The U.S. Senate race continues. Senator Mitch McConnell rallied GOP members from Bullitt and surrounding counties Saturday. He continues to link Alison Lundergan Grimes to President Obama.

“There's nothing Barack Obama wants more than to see me defeated a week from Tuesday and I want him to have a bad night, don't you?”

With this election McConnell has the opportunity to become the senate Majority leader, something Grimes is trying to keep him from accomplishing.

“We've had somebody that's held us back for far too long, 30 years is long enough,” said Grimes.

During her stop at the African American Heritage Center, members of the Congressional Black Caucus came in from out of state in support of Grimes.

“She understands this world doesn't totally revolve around those up here and leaving those down here out,” said CBC chair Marcia Fudge.

But one thing both candidates agree on is the need for Kentucky jobs. They just have different ways of keeping them in the state.

“We are the one in this race that has a jobs plan, to help grow the middle class to put hardworking Kentuckians back to work,” said Grimes.

To do that McConnell says the war on coal needs to end.

“We have 7,000 coal miners in eastern Kentucky out of work, for every coal miner you lose, you lose three more jobs.”

Election Day is a week from Tuesday on November 4th.
