Louisville (25th) one of four ACC teams in first playoff poll
CHARLOTTE, N.C. (WDRB) – As we completed the journey to ACC basketball media day in Charlotte Tuesday evening, Eric Crawford, Mike Lacett and I got the news that Eric said will be the answer to a trivia question one day:
What team was ranked 25th in the first college football playoff poll?
Bobby Petrino's University of Louisville team.
The Cards (6-2) were the fourth, and final, ACC team ranked in a poll that was dominated by the overwhelming presence of Southeastern Conference teams.
For the ACC, the roll call begins with second-ranked Florida State, Clemson (21st) and Duke (24th). If the season ended today, the Seminoles would be in the playoff.
The SEC is represented by six teams. However, three are ranked in the four playoff spots – Mississippi State (first), Auburn (third) and Ole Miss (fourth). Alabama is number six, Georgia is 11th and Louisiana State is 19th.
First takeaway: Louisville has two good shots to improve its ranking. The Cards play Florida State at Papa John's Cardinal Stadium Thursday night and then visit No. 10 Notre Dame Nov. 22.
The playoff committee will release a new poll every Tuesday until the college football season concludes.
