LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB/AP) -- Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal urged Kentucky voters to re-elect Republican Sen. Mitch McConnell so conservatives can retire Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid.

Jindal was the featured speaker at the Restore America Rally in Louisville on Wednesday. It was the latest stop on Jindal's swing through states with competitive midterm elections as he seeks to raise his profile for a possible 2016 run for president.

“It's pretty simple. Obama needs Alison Grimes. Kentucky, Kentucky needs Mitch McConnell. Alison grimes is the candidate who was selected by Obama, supported by Hollywood, financed by Hollywood donors, promoted by MSNBC. Mitch is the candidate that has been supported by the people of Kentucky,” Jindal said.

Officials told WDRB a couple hundred people turned out to the event in Jeffersontown.

McConnell, the Senate minority leader, is trying to become the majority leader. But first he must defeat Democratic challenger Alison Lundergan Grimes. Jindal said Kentucky's election would be the start of a hostile takeover of Washington, D.C.

“If you get to be leader of one of the parties in the senate you get targeted by the other side, I can tell you proudly tonight there's nobody running in America this year the liberals want to beat more than the guy you're looking at right now and I'm proud of my enemies,” McConnell said.

Grimes will campaign with former President Bill Clinton on Thursday and Hillary Rodham Clinton on Saturday.

Thursday, Alison Lundergan Grimes will be campaigning with Bill Clinton in Louisville before campaigning with Hillary Clinton over the weekend.
