BOZICH | Teams 11-through-15 on my AP college basketball pre-season Top 25

Posted: Updated:
LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) – I know that Florida State and Louisville will play football Thursday night at 7:30 in Papa John's Cardinal Stadium. ESPN will televise. It's one of the best games of the weekend.

But Jameis Winston and Jimbo Fisher, the FSU quarterback and coach, probably need some reading material before the game. Just to relax. Break the tension. I'm here to help.

As promised, I'm sharing the teams that I ranked 11-15 on my pre-season Associated Press college basketball poll. The national poll, from all 65 voters, will be released Friday. I'll share my Top 10 on Friday, too.

Let's go. Jameis is waiting – if he's made it back from the Great Lawn.

11. Gonzaga (29-7) – Mark Few says he is going to have one of his better teams – and local fans should pay attention because his roster includes former Kentucky forward Kyle Wiltjer and former Louisville wing Angel Nunez.

12. Florida (36-3) – The Gators lost four critical pieces from last season's Final Four and SEC championship team, but only one, Patric Young, has made his way to the NBA. With Dorian Finney-Smith, Casey Hill and Chris Walker, plus Rutgers transfer Eli Carter, the Gators will be able to play with any SEC team not named Kentucky.

13. San Diego State (31-5) – I once called coach Steve Fisher Barney Fife. I was wrong. Fisher has enjoyed a fabulous career after everything fell apart for him at Michigan. Forward Winston Shepard is his best player this season.

14. Nebraska (19-13) – Terran Petteway, Shavon Shields and Walter Pitchford give coach Tim Miles a three-player punch that should push the Cornhuskers past Ohio State, Michigan State and Michigan in the Big Ten. Nebraska has a wonderful new area and it's become a tough place to win.

15. Villanova (29-5) – I never understood why Dove soap asked Nova coach Jay Wright to be one of its national spokesmen last season – other than he consistently wears great suits. Led by Darrun Hillard II and JayVaughn Pinkston the Wildcats should be the best of what used to be the Big East.

The bottom 10 teams on my ballot: 16. VCU; 17 Iowa; 18 Stanford; 19. Iowa State; 20. Ohio State; 21. Arkansas; 22. SMU; 23. Dayton; 24. Oklahoma; 25. Michigan State.
