Arm, foot found along Kentucky waterfronts one day apart

CARROLLTON, Ky. (WDRB) -- Body parts washed up on the shores of two Kentucky rivers over the weekend. Police do not believe the parts are from the same person, nor do they believe the cases are related.

On Friday, an arm was found on the banks of the Kentucky River in Henry County. According to police, a group of men was gathering firewood when they discovered the arm.

A day later, a foot was discovered along the Ohio River in Carrollton. Police say a riverside resident was cleaning up the shore in front of his house when he found a Nike tennis shoe with a sock and foot still inside.

Investigators say they do not believe the body parts belong to the same person due to their difference in appearance. Officials believe the arm was from a woman because it had acrylic nails, while the foot was in a men's shoe.

They said the foot was almost all bone, indicating it had been in the river for some time. Investigators said the arm, however, did not have the same appearance.

Carrollton Police are investigating the foot, while Kentucky State Police are investigating the arm. Both agencies say they are looking at missing persons reports for clues as to who the body parts could belong to.

The body parts have been sent to the medical examiner's office for DNA testing.
