Fern Creek Fire Dept. major dies of apparent heart attack

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- The Fern Creek Fire Department mourns the loss of Major Malcolm Jenkins Friday. Jenkins passed away Thursday as after an apparent heart attack, according the department. 

His death has been ruled as in the line of duty.

The Major was a 31-year veteran of the department and was serving as a training officer.

The Supporting Heroes website says Jenkins took part in department agility drills Thursday. When he did not return home on time, he was found dead several hours later in his fire department vehicle, parked in the parking lot of a closed gas station.

Visitation is Monday November 3, from Noon to 8 p.m. at Fern Creek Funeral Home (5406 Bardstown Road).

The funeral will be Tuesday November 4, at 11 a.m. at Burnett Avenue Baptist Church (6800 So. Hurstbourne Parkway).

The burial will follow the funeral ceremony on Tuesday at Resthaven Cemetery (5406 Bardstown Road).
