Two killed in Simpson County crash

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. (WDRB) - Two people were killed in a two-vehicle crash that happened Friday afternoon in Simpson County, Kentucky, according to Kentucky State Police. 
 
Kentucky State Police responded to the crash, which happened Friday afternoon at the intersection of KY 103 and KY 1170 in Simpson County.   


The victims killed in the crash have been identified as 22-year-old Samantha Eastgate, of New Kensington, PA, and 13-year-old Jonathan Rimmell IV, from Woodburn, Kentucky. A one-year child was also in Eastgate,s vehicle, but was not injured, officials say.
 
Eastgate was traveling west on KY 1170 in a 2004 Volkswagon. Kentucky State Police say Eastgate, went into the path of a 1976 International. The driver of the International was unable to avoid striking the 2004 Volkswagon on its passenger side, according to police.


Rimmel was pronounced dead at the scene by Simpson County Coroner Gary Crafton. Eastgate was taken to the Bowling Green Medical Center and then airlifted to Skyline Medical Center in Nashville, where she later died from her injuries.

The driver of the International was transported to the Bowling Green Medical Center for treatment and he was later released.
