Wisconsin Law School study indicates evictions on the rise, more people than ever being kicked out

Posted: Updated:

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Evictions are on the rise across the country and more people are being forced from their homes than ever before.

Researchers at the University of Wisconsin School of Law estimate several million families face eviction each year.

One reason is tenants not being able to pay higher rents, while other renters are kicked out over small violations.

Another reason for the rise in evictions is low income housing being converted to middle income and luxury housing.

The average rent has increased seven percent in the past year, while the average income has only increased by less than two percent in the same time period.
