LEXINGTON, Ky. (WDRB) – Kentucky head coach Mark Stoops knows now is not the time to downplay the problems of his football team.
“The bottom line is we're too undisciplined,” said Stoops at his weekly press conference Monday. “We need to be a more disciplined football team. “
Stoops and the Wildcats (5-4, 2-4 SEC) come into Saturday's game with 17th ranked Georgia (6-2, 4-2), straight off a poor outing against Missouri. Kentucky's in the middle of a three game losing streak.
"I don't know if we lost our way,” Stoops explained. “We just need to be better. We're inconsistent. The wheels aren't falling off. We barely had them on."
But they are running out of time.
The Wildcats are still sitting on five wins and are still one win away from becoming bowl eligible. Weeks ago, bowl eligibility seemed like a foregone conclusion to a lot of Wildcat fans. Now with just three games left on the schedule, Stoops says there's no guarantee.
“We cannot wait for our moment. We've got to train to go take it and make our moment”
UK returns home to Commonwealth Stadium Saturday. It's their final home game of the season. It's also Senior Day and Stoops says his seniors have to step up to get the team back on track.
“I think it's important to show some leadership and some character. And we need those guys to step up and push us over the top, push the younger guys to, again, be more disciplined, to do the little things right, to create those winning habits.”
Kickoff is Saturday at noon.
