Voters in Floyd, Clark Counties casting votes in closely watched sheriff's races

Posted: Updated:
LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- The race for sheriff is on in both Floyd and Clark counties.

Two candidates are vying for the office of Floyd County Sheriff. The candidates have spent tens of thousands of dollars to get their names in the public -- you can see their signs everywhere.

Both candidates currently work for the Floyd County Sheriffs Department.

Republican Frank Loop has been there for the past 32 years.

Democrat Brad Striegel has been with the sheriffs department for 11 years. He's also Vice President of the Floyd County Council.

The current sheriff, Darrell Mills, couldn't run again because he's at the end of his two-term limit.

In Clark County, there were three people on the ballot for sheriff: Republican Jamey Noel; Independent Mac Spainhour; and Democrat Brian Meyer -- who is the acting Clark County Sheriff.

All three candidates want to regain the public's trust, after Sheriff Danny Rodden was indicted on federal charges for lying about an affair with a prostitute.

Noel has more than 20 years experience with Indiana State Police, and Spainhour was an Indiana conservation officer for more than 27 years.
