Four suspects sought in break-in shooting, victim says it's not the home's first break-in

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Four men broke into a home and shot a man inside -- with an infant nearby -- and police say it wasn't the first time the home had been hit.

Police are not sure what the motivation was for the crime as they believe the suspects didn't manage to steal anything after shooting the victim.

Yellow crime scene tape and a busted front door are remnants of the scary scene that unfolded Tuesday night on Whippany Court in south Louisville. Police say four men broke in and the victim says they were wearing ski masks.

"Once those individuals got inside, they ordered one of the occupants of the home to the floor, they got into some type of altercation and one of those individuals shot the victim," said LMPD spokesman Dwight Mitchell.

He says the family fought back. "One of the other family members inside did fire back at those individuals but did not hit any of them."

The men took off and police have not caught them yet. The victim was shot in the neck but is expected to be okay.

However, police say this same home was burglarized about a week ago.

They are not sure if the home is being targeted, but they believe this latest incident is isolated. "The officers in that area they hadn't heard of anybody or individuals going around robbing anybody that would match this," said Mitchell.

WDRB spoke to the victim by phone. He was still in the ICU Wednesday afternoon and did not want his face on camera.

He says he and his family are pretty much done with the house and will be moving out as soon as they can. He says when he was shot, his nine-month-old nephew was put in danger.

"The fortunate thing in this case is the victim was apparently not seriously hurt where it could have been a lot more devastating than it is," said Mitchell.
