Two IU rape suspects captured after police shootout

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) - A shootout with police has led to the capture of two rape suspects on the Indiana University campus.

Police say 19-year-olds Vaylen Glazebrook and Michael DeWeese raped two female students at gunpoint in an apartment near campus. The crimes happened early Sunday morning.

Officers fired at the suspects after they say shots were fired at them.

"We approached the front of the residence, noticed the door was partially ajar, announced 'police' and saw a male subject in the hallway of the apartment. We also noticed the subject was pulling his pants up. The male subject said something to the effect of hold on a minute and a shot rang out from inside the apartment," said Bloomington Police Chief Mike Diekoff.

The men face preliminary charges including rape and attempted murder.

A third man believed to be the get-away driver, Jesse Benti-Torres, also faces charges including assisting a criminal.

Police say the suspects did not know the victims, and are not IU students.
