LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- The University of Kentucky and the University of Louisville are joining forces to combat lung cancer.

Representatives from both universities announced a $7 million grant from the Bristol-Myers Squibb Foundation to help in the fight.

The project is called "Lung Cancer... Education... Awareness... Detection... Survivorship."

The money will be used for cancer screenings and early detection.

Kentucky has more cases of lung cancer than any other state, with a mortality rate nearly 50 percent higher than the national average.
