Veterans, wounded warriors use fishing to relax at Rocky Ridge Fish Farm

Posted: Updated:
LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) - The Kentucky Pro Bass Warriors have a unique mission: help wounded soldiers recover ... one fish at a time.

Kaoru O'Bryan, the founder of the organization, has been taking wounded veterans and soldiers fishing for about two years.

Thirteen of them threw out their lines at the Rocky Ridge Fish Farm on Saturday.

The goal is to relax and get their minds off surgery, rehab, doctor appointments and other stressors that go along with being a wounded warrior.

"I'm scared to go other places because I don't know what's around me or what's going to happen," wounded warrior Daniel O'Dell said. "That anxiety starts kicking in quite a bit. So me just coming out here ... this has to get me out of my house and drive, so that's one step."

A competition is held for who can catch the biggest fish.

Some of the fish will be sold to local restaurants and grocery stores.
