LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) - For the first time since being elected the Senate Majority Leader, Mitch McConnell returned to Kentucky on Saturday.

The senator spoke with state party leaders Saturday morning in Frankfort.

McConnell was happy to return to his home state after one of the most-watched senate races in the country.

"Winston Churchill once said there's nothing quite as exhilarating as being shot at and missed," McConnell said. "So I'm here to thank all of you for participating in what was clearly the most-watched and, what some would argue, the most-important US Senate race in the country that occurred right here in Kentucky."

McConnell boasted his success at the polls, specifically his wins in Kentucky's most-Democratic counties.

He also had plenty to say about his future aspirations in Washington, continuing pledgedge the return of the coal industry in eastern Kentucky.
