JEFFERSONVILLE, Ind. (WDRB) -- A half-century old company in Jeffersonville is using original practices to cater to new customers and they're getting national recognition for it.

Family-owned Marwood Veneer Inc. is catering to a niche market of skateboard builders.

The company's products are usually purchased by architects and commonly used in home building, wood art, and vehicle interiors. In the last five years, Marwood started supplying skateboard manufacturers with build-it-yourself skateboard kits.

Marwood was recently listed as a trusted veneer source in a new book called "The Handmade Skateboard".

The Southern Indiana company sells to a variety of clients across the world, from wood shop classes to skateboard manufacturers.

"We sell them the wood that makes the plywood sandwich. It's typically a seven ply construction. So we'll sell them three different grades and seventy pieces," company president Jim Martin explained. "They can make ten skateboards out of it."
