Woman recovering after being struck by car in St. Matthews

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A woman was hospitalized after being struck by a car in St. Matthews Tuesday night. 

According to police, it happened just before 7 p.m. as Sgt. Janine Bowling, a firefighter with Louisville Fire & Rescue, was walking across Willis Avenue near Breckenridge Lane.

Bowling was taken to University Hospital for treatment, after sustaining injuries to her foot and head.

Officials say Sgt. Bowling was released Wednesday morning and is expected to make a full recovery. She is a 14-year veteran of the Louisville Fire Department. Bowling was off-duty when she was hit.

LMPD is investigating the accident and it is not known if the driver will face any charges.
