LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A Jefferson County Sheriff's Deputy is at University Hospital after being struck by a car Wednesday evening.

Jefferson County Sheriff's Department PIO Carl Yates says the deputy happened upon a car accident at Billtown Road and Michaele Lane. He says the deputy got out of his car to assist Jeffersontown Police with the accident by directing traffic.

According to Yates, that's when the deputy was struck by a vehicle. He says the deputy has been taken to University Hospital with a possible broken leg along with some scrapes and bruises. After being admitted to the hospital for observation, the deputy received stitches for a head wound and it was determined the deputy did not have any broken bones.

Jeffersontown Police is investigating both accidents at the scene.
