LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- People started lining up at 4:30 Thursday morning to receive a food basket for Thanksgiving from the Lord's Kitchen.

The Evangel World Prayer Center is providing 1,800 food baskets to needy families this year. Participants pre-registered and came in person to pick up their baskets. The baskets contain either a large frozen chicken or ham and 50 pounds of canned goods.

That's enough food to feed a family of four for a week.

"The need is staggering," said Pastor Bob Rodgers, who founded the Lord's Kitchen. "It grew from 500 about 5 years ago to 700 the next year. Then it got to a thousand. Last year it was 1,200 and now it's grown to 1,800. It's amazing the needs we have in our city."

Rodgers started the Lord's Kitchen 26 years ago on Christmas Day. Since then it  has provided over 7 million meals. Click here for more information on the Lord's Kitchen.
