Accused gunman in Fern Creek High School shooting indicted on six charges

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- The accused gunman in the Fern Creek High School shooting has been charged.

16-year-old Andre Banks is accused of shooting 15-year-old Javaughntay Burroughs inside the school on September 30th.

A grand jury indicted the suspect today on six adult charges, including unlawful possession of a weapon on school property and carrying a concealed deadly weapon.

Police rushed to the school after the shooting and systematically searched the building.

They eventually found Banks at a nearby apartment.

Burroughs continues to recover at home and has not yet been able to return to school.

Banks is set to be arraigned on Monday, Dec. 1.

Banks is charged with:

  • Assault in the first degree
  • Possession of a handgun by a minor
  • Wanton endangerment in the first degree
  • Tampering with physical evidence
  • Unlawful possession of a weapon on school property
  • Carrying a concealed deadly weapon
