LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) - The Louisville Metro Human Relations Commission has said it is planning a series of "cross-cultural events" in the coming year in an effort to inspire discussion, in light of recent events in Ferguson, Missouri.

In a released statement, the group said it wants to, "promote unity, understanding and equal opportunity among all people of metro Louisville and to eliminate all forms of bigotry, bias and hatred from the community."

The Human Relations Commission says the events are a means to bring together people who come from diverse backgrounds.

The commission says it hopes the events will help Louisville to become a more "compassionate city."
