Airline prices increase as jet fuel costs decrease

Posted: Updated:
LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Airline costs are increasing as jet fuel prices are falling.

Analysts say more expensive labor contracts are the reason behind the rising airline prices.

According to industry trade group Airlines for America, jet fuel prices have dropped 18 percent since August, but airfare prices have increased by three percent. Additionally, prices have climbed 31 percent since 2009.

The higher prices have not deterred travelers. About 85 percent of seats were filled in 2014, which is a record high.
