Marriage proposal goes awry, allows dive team to practice for a good cause

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- An Alabama man's case of nerves got in the way of a perfect proposal.

Corey Winters took his girlfriend to a waterfall on Friday night and got down on one knee, but her took her right hand.

When she corrected him, saying the ring goes on the left hand, his hands started shaking. He bumped her ring finger and dropped the ring.

It fell between two slats on the bridge and into the river below.

Winters got in the water to search, but came up empty-handed so park staff called in a dive team to search.

"It was a great training opportunity," dive team commander Scott Hassell said. "There's not many times we get to actually be in rapid water there. And two, it was pretty significant to he and his family, and so he kept going out there and so we figured in the long run it was safer if we went out and looked for it."

A group of three divers found the ring within an hour.
