LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Bardstown Police have arrested a man they say burglarized a bank early Monday morning.

Ronald G. Newberry, 61, was arrested after police say he was caught inside the Lincoln National Bank, located at 500 Lincoln Way in Bardstown.

Officials responded to an alarm at the bank just after 5 a.m. on Monday. They allegedly found broken glass and a silver Kia parked in the bank's drive through upon their arrival at the scene.

Newberry was found hiding behind a Christmas tree after police searched the bank, according to authorities.

Authorities say they uncovered a Beretta 9mm handgun and several silver coins and bars in a duffle bag. They also say it appears Newberry brought the silver to the bank. AK 47 rifle magazines were found inside Newberry's car.

Police say Newberry used a gun to shoot at the bank's lock and break glass in order to gain entry.

Investigators say he initially came to the bank's drive-through and he then allegedly used the gun to break into the bank.

Newberry is charged with first degree burglary and he is being held at the Nelson County Jail.
