LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- The family of a 16-year-old girl who was fatally shot in west Louisville Saturday is pleading for her killer to surrender.

Police say 16-year-old Shavon Ross was shot and killed behind a boarded up house in the Russell neighborhood near 24th and Elliot on Nov. 29.

Ross's mother, Pat Ladd, describes her daughter as a nice, sweet girl. Surrounded by family members, Ladd remembered the moment her life changed. "Her best friend called me and told me that my daughter was dead," Ladd said. "And I said 'quit playing.' And she said she's not playing, that she's dead for real, she got shot in the back.

Ladd describes her as a nice, sweet girl who was looking forward to prom, graduating from high school and living her life.Dreams that were cut short.

"My daughter should not have ever lost her life," Ladd said.

Family members say the 11th grader was recently suspended from Fairdale High School for fighting, and that tension from an argument at Light Up Louisville spilled over Saturday evening, when Ross was shot and killed and another teen was taken to the hospital.

Police officials says they are still looking into leads and will not have any information until an arrest is made.

A fund has been set up at PNC banks in Shavon Ross's name to help pay for funeral and burial costs.

Another teen injured in the shooting was hospitalized and is expected to recover.
