UPDATE: Two suspects in custody after elderly couple stabbed during home invasion

WEST BADEN, Ind. (WDRB) -- A west Baden, Indiana couple is recovering tonight being stabbed in their home early Thursday morning.

The husband and wife say they believe their grandson took part in the home invasion.

The intruders broke into Donna Meehan's house just before 3 a.m.

"I turned around in my bed to see what was going on and my husband was down on the ground on his knees and he got up and ran toward the kitchen, and there's the two guys in black hoodies with skeleton faces on," Donna said.

Police say the two men forced their way in through the bathroom window.

Donna says when she started to call 911, they came after her.

"They start for the door, but I get hit in the side of my neck," Donna said. "I thought I was hit with a fist and when I got into my wheelchair I had blood gushing down the front of me."

They also stabbed her husband, Bob.

"They nicked his small intestines, and they had to stitch him up," Donna said. "And they got two deep wounds in his belly, and two deep wounds in his thigh."

Both were rushed to the hospital.

Donna was released, but Bob had to go into emergency surgery. He is expected to survive.

Police believe their suspects are 20-year-old Tanner Stickney and 21-year-old Cody Lake, both of Bedford, Indiana.

Donna says Tanner is her grandson, and she believes he may have been trying to kill her.

"This was a hate thing," Donna said.

But police believe the two were after money and prescription pills.

"It's a completely senseless, ridiculous crime," said Sgt. Philip Hensley with Indiana State Police. "They come in, demanding something from the homeowner, hurt the homeowner and left."

When asked if she thinks the two should go to jail, she answered, Yes, because if they could do that to me -- and somebody else could make them mad. Someone is going to end up dead."

The suspects were taken into custody around 6:30 p.m. Thursday.

They could face attempted murder charges.
