Six Fern Creek H.S. students taken to hospital after drinking tainted water

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) - Six students from Fern Creek High School were transported to the hospital Thursday after drinking water tainted with prescription medication.

"One student put an ADHD pill into a water bottle and a total of six students drank from it," said Ben Jackey, a spokesman for Jefferson County Public Schools.

Fern Creek High principal Nate Meyer told WDRB news Thursday night that the students were transported as a precaution after their parents were notified.

"They were taken to the hospital because their parents could not get to school immediately to make a decision for their child," Meyer said. "A school representative went with the kids and were all met by their parents."

"All schools are careful when it comes to a child's health and well being," Meyer said.  "We just wanted to make sure all kids were okay. No kids were ever in distress."

The student who put the pill into the water bottle is facing disciplinary action, Meyer said.
