LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) - A man was hurt trying to rescue his eight pets from a house fire near the Oldham County/Jefferson County line.

The fire started just before 9:30 Monday night on Ash Avenue near the Oldham-Jefferson County line.

Pewee Valley Fire Department spokesman Jerry Nauert says 50 firefighters from nine departments fought the fire.

A man inside the home stayed in an attempt to rescue four dogs and four cats, but they have not been found yet. The victim suffered burns to his hands and arms and was taken to the hospital.

Nauert says the home has extensive damage, but the cause of the fire is not known at this time.
