Trailing Clark County Clerk candidate's request for additional recount denied

CLARK COUNTY, Ind. (WDRB) -- A judge will have a final say on who will assume the role of Clark County Clerk, and it could come as early as Monday.

Republican Kelly Harrod -- who won on election night -- wanted the Recount Commission to re-run the ballots in one of the precincts in Charlestown.

Harrod's attorney, Larry Wilder, asked the panel for the additional recount Friday, but the motion was denied.

Harrod and Democrat Susan Popp were only separated by 21 votes after the election.

As it stands after a recount, Popp is ahead by about 43 votes.

Both sides will meet before a judge Monday.

Unless the judge overturns decisions made Friday, Popp will be the winner.

But she's not ready to declare victory just yet.

"I'm just going to let this take its course. obviously i'm up by 43 votes, or i was. i'm just going to wait, but i do feel it's important that every vote gets counted," candidate Susan Popp said.

Both sides say they appreciate the three-member panel and the integrity of recounting votes--to make sure residents in Clark County have faith that their vote counted.

"We challenged 111 ballots and the commission ruled against us, it's a matter we can appeal to the judge, and we'll appeal it to the judge," Wilder said.

Harrod was unable to be at the hearing Friday.
