LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) - Two-year-old Zayden is all that's left of Porcia Mills.

Mills was found dead in her apartment on Phyllis Avenue on Friday and her son, Zayden, was found unharmed in another room.

"It was an unbelievable experience having to watch my son in this window screaming and knowing I couldn't do anything," said Anthony Merida, Zayden's father.

Police say Mills was stabbed multiple times by 26-year-old Deshon Dorsey.

Family members say Mills had just broken up with Dorsey, and he was in the process of moving out.

"I prayed and asked God, that if he had any conscience, why would you take my grandbabies from him," said Denise Hathron, Zayden's grandmother.

"Part of me feels at peace, and part of me is still so enraged that someone could have so much anger and violence towards somebody so sweet," Merida said.

Among the tears shed for a young mother taken too soon, was a cry of another kind - a cry for an escape from domestic violence.

"For anybody in a domestic relationship that's violent ... get out as soon as possible so you don't have to go through this, so your family doesn't have to go through this," Merida said.
