Social media helps drive up food bank donations

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) - Facebook clicks are helping put food on the table for those in need.

Green Bean Delivery donated 2,000 pounds of fresh produce to Louisville's Dare to Care Food Bank.

The workers unloaded bags of potatoes and onions on Monday morning.

Green Bean Delivery donates to the food bank each week, but the delivery was bigger than usual thanks to help from its customers on social media.

"We posted on Facebook that we're going to be donating to Dare to Care and if someone from the community likes our post or shares it, we will up our donation, so it was definitely community driven," said Mike Block, with the organization Green Bean Kentucky.

Green Bean Delivery donated five tons of produce to food banks in five different cities as part of the company's Like, Share, Give Facebook campaign.
