LANE | U of L Women Crush Old Dominion

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB)—An eight-day break from games was apparently pretty good for the U of L women's basketball team.  They jumped out to a quick lead on Old Dominion and kept extending the lead in a 100-46 blow out of the Lady Monarchs.

U of L was coming off its first loss of the season when Kentucky rallied from a big second-half deficit on December 7th at the KFC Yum! Center.  Monday night's home crowd was treated not only to ugly Christmas sweater night, including a colorful Cardinal effort from coach Jeff Walz, but they saw the Lady Cardinals rolling on all cylinders.

"We played the best I think we've played all year," said Walz.

The box score was filled with positive numbers.

Louisville hit 52 % from the field and made 9-of-14 threes.  They outrebounded Old Dominion 59-30 and added 25 assists and 11 steals.  The Lady Cardinals led 54-19 at halftime against a team that came into the game 5-2.

Freshman Mariya Moore led seven U of L players in double figures with 15.  She also had five rebounds and five assists.  Sara Hammond had 14 points and 8 rebounds.  Fellow Senior Jude Schimmel had 12 points, 10 assists and 6 rebounds.  Myisha Hines-Allen 12 points and 8 boards. Bria Smith had 11 points and 6 rebounds.

And there was plenty of help off the bench.

Emmonnie Henderson had 11 points and 6 rebounds and Megan Deines hit four of five shots, including both attempts outside the arc for 10 points.

Louisville (9-1) hits the road for its next two, at Grand Canyon in Phoenix on Thursday and at 24th-ranked California on Sunday.
