Toyota eyes New Albany location for distribution center

Posted: Updated:

NEW ALBANY, Ind. (WDRB) -- New Albany leaders say Toyota is considering their city for a distribution center.

The New Albany Planning Commission approved preliminary plans for two facilities in Grant Line Industrial Park West.

New Albany is one of several cities the car manufacturer is considering, in order to distribute parts.

If Toyota chooses New Albany, those involved with the proposal say it will create 25 to 30 full time jobs.

"If they're going to add a manufacturing operation at some point, they are likely to locate close to their existing distribution facilities. So what we believe is if we can locate these in and around our area, it heightens our chances of getting those large assembly plants in the future," One Southern Indiana representative Wendy Dant Chesser said.

It is not yet clear when Toyota will make a decision.
