Prosecutors seeking death penalty in Ricky Kelly murder trial
LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- It was a murder for money and drugs. That's according to Louisville prosecutors - who say they'll seek the death penalty in a 2005 murder case.
Kelly is charged with the 2005 murder of LaJuante Jackson. Police say Kelly shot Jackson to protect a drug trafficking organization. Prosecutors claim he hunted Jackson down and shot her more than 10 times.
The case started at the state level, then went to federal court and has now been seen sent back to the Commonwealth.
Since 1996, Kelly has been charged with eight murders. Prosecutors say they are still investigating whether or not to try the other cases in state court.
On Thursday a judge ordered additional evidence turned over to Kelly's defense attorney.
Both sides say they're hoping to go to trial in June.
