LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A special program makes sure hundreds of people in Shepherdsville will enjoy a Merry Christmas.

It's called Shepherdsville Santa.

The police department and the community work together to fill boxes with food.

They will also provide coats and other surprises to 125 families in need.

"It's really rewarding to help those at this time of year -- even though you should help people all year -- but this is especially important to me because of the kids. It makes a big impact on the kids because it shows people do care," Shepherdsville Police Officer Myra Minton said.

Businesses including Kroger, Best Buy and Gordon Food Service also stepped up to provide donations.

The boxes full of goodies will be given out on Saturday.
