Churchill Downs names Travis Stone to track announcer post

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) – Churchill Downs officially named a new track announcer and voice of the Kentucky Derby Friday. Travis Stone, the race-caller at Monmouth Park in 2014, will take on his new role beginning with the 2015 Spring Meet in April.

Stone is just the eighth announcer in Churchill Downs' history, succeeding Larry Collmus. He was the race-caller for just one year before he left for the New York Racing Association. However, Collmus will continue calling the Derby for NBC.

Stone is a New York native began his career in 2006 as the track announcer at Harrah's Louisiana Downs.

“It is truly an honor to become the new voice of Churchill Downs and to join a community that shares my passion and enthusiasm for this wonderful sport,” Stone said. “The opportunity to call the Kentucky Derby and all of the prestigious races at Churchill Downs is a dream come true. I am already counting the days!”

Stone has called races on occasion at Churchill Downs, he participated in the 2006 All-Star Announcer's Day before the Breeder's Cup that year. He was also part of a group of guest announcers during the 2008 Fall Meet.
