LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A Louisville Metro employee was arrested Friday morning about 11 a.m., according to the Louisville Metro Police Department.

Police say Kevin Chapman, an employee with the Louisville Metro Department of Codes and Regulations, was caught stealing copper piping from vacant buildings.

Detectives followed Chapman and saw him leave two vacant buildings with copper piping. He was arrested on South park Road as he was stashing the copper of a city 'code enforcement' vehicle.

Chapman was wearing his code enforcement badge, according to police, and told detectives he was trying to secure the house. Detectives found tools and a saw for cutting the copper in his trunk.

A judge set Chapman's bond in $500 full cash. He's scheduled back in court on Dec. 30.
