Louisville martial arts program a comfortable place for children with disorders

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) - Kids took a swing against learning differences Saturday.

It was part of the new program  by Hwang's Martial Arts called Warriors.

It helps children with disorders like autism, ADD and down syndrome.

The pilot program introduces the children to martial arts and teaches them skills they can use on and off the mat.

"Focus is the biggest difference," said Sabine Buchanan. "My daughter is specifically with Warriors because her issues are a little more severe. And her balance has improved a lot.

"A lot of these kids don't have friends. They get misunderstood and pushed around, bullied. But here they feel comfortable."

The main purpose of the classes is to keep them smaller in size so the children don't have a sensory overload and learn in a one-on-one setting.
