CRAWFORD | ACC suspends Harrell for one game after WKU ejection

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — The Atlantic Coast Conference has issued a one-game suspension to University of Louisville forward Montrezl Harrell after he received a Flagrant 2 foul during the Cardinals' game at Western Kentucky on Saturday.

Harrell was ejected from the game after officials determined he threw a punch after a scramble for a loose ball.

Team officials seemed confident Saturday that Harrell wouldn't have to sit an extra game, as he wasn't ejected from the game for “fighting” per se. But the ACC has the authority to review the tape and issue a suspension, which it did in this case.

The league said in a short release that it “considers the matter closed and will not have further comment.”

Harrell said after the game that he apologized to his teammates.

“I told these guys I made a wrong choice, a bad decision,” Harrell said after the game. “I've got to live with the consequences . . .  I know I shouldn't have reacted in that way and I'm truly sorry and apologize for the way I reacted."

U of L coach Rick Pitino told Fox Sports 1 after the game that Harrell, “deserved to get ejected. The officials made the right call.”

Pitino is out of town recruiting and couldn't immediately be reached for a reaction on the Harrell ruling from the ACC.
