Candlelight vigil in Louisville remembers ambushed NYPD officers

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) - A day after two New York police officers were ambushed in their patrol car, the Louisville community gathered for a vigil.

The candlelight vigil was organized by Supporting Heroes, and included multiple people who have lost loved ones in the line of duty.

Those in attendance said they felt they had to show support for police officers everywhere.

"The attack on the police officers in New York was an attack on police officers everywhere," said Eric Johnson, executive director of Supporting Heroes.

"They were killed not because of who they were as individuals, but for what they stood for."

NYPD officers Rafael Ramos and Wenjian Liu were shot and killed while they sat in their patrol car on Saturday.
