POLICE: Louisville man terrifies family on their first day in new home

Posted: Updated:
LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Police say a family's first day in a new home was interrupted by a man who allegedly forced his way inside and held them captive.

According to the arrest report, it happened during the early morning hours of Dec. 22 in the 7100 block of Green Oak Drive, which is just off Lower Hunters Trace near the Greenbelt Hwy. That's where police were called for a trouble run around 3:30 a.m., Tuesday but when officers arrived, they were told the person causing the trouble -- identified as 21-year-old Max A. Chamberlain -- was gone.

Police say officers checked the home and "nothing was seen at the time."

A short time later, officers were sent to the same location. That's when police say they learned that Chamberlain had broken into the home and forced one of the victims to tell police "that he had left the scene and that she wanted no police contact." Police say Chamberlain also "restrained the homeowners and threatened physical harm."

One of the victims told police that Chamberlain kept referring to her as "Brittany" and kept telling them to go into the bedroom to wait for him.

Police say one of the homeowners managed to run out the door and call police from a neighbor's house. The caller met officers in the street and told them Chamberlain was still inside. As officers approached Chamberlain, they say he told them he belonged there and lived there. The homeowners told police they had just moved in that day and had never seen him before. Officers observed obvious damage "on the door frame.

Police say Chamberlain threatened to harm the arresting officer as he was being taken to jail.

Chamberlain is now facing numerous charges, including burglary, unlawful imprisonment, harassment with physical contact, and terroristic threatening.
