LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- People gathered in downtown Louisville on Wednesday -- Christmas Eve -- to show their support for local officers.

Peter Hayes, a spokesman for the organization "Man Up," says the group wanted to demonstrate that the majority of people support police. Those who attended the rally asked residents to place their right hand over their heart when they see a police officer.

They're asking officers to do the same: all to show respect and support for each other.

"We want the community, the law abiding citizens and the government and agencies, to work together," Hayes said. "We have to put a lid on this crime and violence. It affects all of us. It affects all of our families."

Similar rallies took place across the country today.
